Bleaching (colored) red hair back to blonde?

I have naturally blonde hair and just for a change of pace I dyed my hair a dark red that lightened up to a dark strawberry blonde and I want to bleach it back to blonde. What are the odds it'll actually be blonde? Or will it turn orange or green?

It will be orange for sure. Even professionals will have a hrd time stripping out the red dye. Red is very hard to take out. They will have to do it several times until they get all the red out. That takes several sessions. It between sessions - you will have orange head.

If you don't go to a professional but decide to do it yourslef - chances are it will turn green. It is the tendency for many drug-store brands that are supposed to give you a lighter shade, if you apply it over a red dye it turns green. Unless you know what you are doing, don't do it yourself.

I had meduim-brown hair that I colored to auburn and later I wanted it to be blond. It took 2 bleaching (yeah, actual bleaching) at a professional salon until they got all the red out. Bleach-free products simply didn't do it.

If you bleach it will not remove all red.Next shade to come is copper. If becomes yellow, don't put any ash colours, because you have a chance to become green,if is copper ,go with ash blond.

i have natural dark brown hair and i have always wanted blonde hair so i asked my stylist. She said she could strip my hair color and re dye it. However it is pretty expensive so she told me to go to walmart and look in the hair color section and they carried a product that stripped your hair color and did the same thing. I did it, and put the blonde color on my hair and it turned out blonde. I can't remember the name of the product, but it worked for me. And from what i can remember, it was the only product they had at walmart for stripping the hair color. Hope this helps.

Well, first you should have it professionally done. They won't bleach your hair, they will just strip it of all the dyes. It may take a few times before it comes out, but they can certainly work it down without it changing a completely different shade.

I also suggest having a pro do it. Red is the hardest color to keep and hardest to remove. If you just try walmart bleach it will turn it orange or yellow. You will most likely need it stripped. Sometimes they can remove red with stronger bleach. Also if your hair is still a bit yellow after seeing a pro, I suggest using Purple shampoo the elderly use to get that silvery color. It will counter act the yellow and give you a nice blonde.

it can be done. i would go to a professional salon, it will have to be died and toned. you can try clairol ultra blue box at stores. i used this cause i have natural redish tones in my hair and it ;ightens and tones(it has a toner in it).. i am bleach blonde and it looks good. that stuff works great. but it is your call.
