If my hair is black now, and i dye it blonde, will i cover the black with blonde?

I just want to get the black out without having to go to the salon! I understand it would be smarter to just go to the salon, but some people just don't have enough money, i'm about to start college, and I want to at least attempt to have a nice haircolor. I've always had a dark brown/black hair color, and I want something different.

I know it is very very difficult to cover black, so I want to die it blonde, then wait a week, and die it the color I want.

I know I'll be damaging my hair with more dye, so I don't want anyone to tell me that.

I just want to know, if blonde hair dye will cover black.

and then will a burgandy red cover the blonde?

You can't do that

You can't cover a darker color with a lighter one.

i think it will but then it will start fading away and you will be able to see the black in your roots

first dye your hair light brown then dye over the light brown with blonde almost like your working your way up to blonde

its really hard to go from black to blonde....

i'd probably get some bleach or "quick n blue" (straight hair bleach.. works REALLY fast)...

hopefully that would help. you may have to do it a few times though. especially if your hair is black.

i'd bleach it blonde (maybe 2-3 times) then put the new color you want over that.... take your time though otherwise your hair will just be fried and will fall out.

Blonde will not cover black, it will come out some awful shade of red. Been there done that go to a salon.

I definitley wouldn't suggest dying your hair blonde when its black.

Whenever you have dark hair and you want it light, you need to either go to a hair stylist and have them strip it out and haven them give you the best advice. OR get an at home stip out hair color kit.

Whichever you choose, DON'T put the blonde over the black. Trust me, you'll get some weird color that you won't be happy with at all.

As for the burgandy, if that's the color you want, how about dying it burgandy after you get the black out.

If you dye your hair blonde, and then red, your hair will look aweful. That's the simple truth.

First, strip your hair of the black. If it's your natural color, wait a day or two to give your hair a break. Then, dye it burgandy [since I assume that's the color you want to achieve?].

You don't dye your hair blonde over black. you have to strip the black off and bleach your hair. Then you can dye it blonde. It will be very damaging to your hair. If you do you may need to a Ms. Spears stye to your hair.

you can't dye over black whether it's natural or not. You can't dye over dye and depending on the product you pick, you may not even lighten natural black much.

The only thing to do to go lighter is to bleach out the dark color and then dye the color you want, this is tricky as the amount of bleaching needed varies and here is where the disaster might occur.

There are many products out there, and if this is the first time you have tried you should be ok, consecutive bleachings weaken your hair and you may have more breakage and fall out.

The redye after bleaching is usually the easiest part of it all.

Good luck, my daughter and I have been on this adventure for years, she now goes to a salon for her work, it's just safer, and easier on our relationship!

okay well, blonde wont cover the black, maybe if you dye it several times blonde, then it might, but you need to make sure you dont dye your hair too many times, because it will all fall out.

but be careful, i dyed my hair blonde, and kept getting it blonde, for about a year. Then i decided i wanted to be brunette, do i dyed it brown. The color lasted about a week, then it faded back to blonde.

Oh don't do that~!! it will be a hair disaster!

If my hair is black now, and i dye it blonde, will i cover the black with blonde?

Nope. You have to lift color off of your hair to deposit new color. You ca not put blond dye on your hair, it won't lift the color you are now. You have to bleach it and then deposit color.

Do not attempt this yourself, you will create a huge mess and then end up at the salon anyway getting someone to sort out the mess you'll make. Not to mention the damage you can do to your hair.

Your hair is a major asset, don't screw around with it because you are worried about spending a few bucks.

You need to consult with a hairdresser, add some gradual hi lights and go from there. It's very hard to have dark hair like you and be able to go so light. It ends up looking orange and not very attractive.

With blonde you won't be covering black or any other color, you'll be bleaching the hair not the color of the dye you had before. It's called stripping. However, if you try to do this yourself, you will be making a BIG mistake. A professional will know how to do it correctly and give you some tips about color in the future. Please go to a salon.

GO TO A SALON!! Very dark hair can be exceptionally hard to color. In the lightening process, dark hair goes through stages. First it will turn a brown, then a red, then possibly orange, then MAYBE get into the blonde tones. If your ultimate goal is a burgandy color, that will be easier to obtain then trying to go blonde first. Either way, go have your hair professionally done. You will be sorry if you try to take it on yourself. One other thing, you don't cover up a darker color with a lighter color. You are stripping color out. Not putting it in. Also, when you change your hair color drastically, your roots are very obvious when they start to grow out. You will have to color often if you don't want to look like a skunk. Hair grows approximately a 1/2 inch per month.

If you don't have the money to go to a salon, then do not try to go blonde. You will need to end up at the salon, anyway, because it will be a disaster. Even if it did miraculously come out okay, you would have to keep spending money on the upkeep, because like I said, hair grows approximately a 1/2 inch per month. So you'd be redoing your hair at least once a month. Plus, even though you don't want to discuss damaging your hair, trust me, if you bleach it it WILL be frizzy and appear coarse.

one girl i know (and hate) died blond over black and it went green. another girl tried to die her very pale blonde hair a deep redy-brown and ended up with orange hair. but they both used cheep tacky hair dies. so long as you make sure you get decent stuff it should be ok, but you may have to apply blonde twice. be care full and test the die befor you cover your hair with it. xxx good luck (PS. your hair sounds gorgeous any way)

If my hair is black now, and i dye it blonde, will i cover the black with blonde?

NO!!!! first; if you want it blond it has to be bleached, not colored. Second; if its dyed black the bleach it would take would really damage your hair. Third; if its natural its possible but still takes a lot of bleach, if its truly black. I would go to a light brown, Let it go natural then decide. Any darker color will cover blonde, Burgundies will fade.
